Brass is beautiful but tarnishes easily. Don t be alarmed when the paste bubbles. Apply the paste with a soft cloth. This can be done without removing the kitchen hardware although the items will get a more thorough clean if you can scrub them inside and out with a toothbrush or other soft scrubbing tool.
Combine the juice of half a lemon with a teaspoon of baking soda and stir until it becomes a paste. Apply oil after cleaning your brass hinges. You can also add 1 teaspoon salt to 1 4 cup of vinegar to boost the polishing effects. Dab a clean cloth with a bit of linseed olive lemon or mineral oil.
Some people also use lemon juice and salt in similar proportions. A thin layer of oil can prevent brass from tarnishing. But make sure the salt is not too coarse as it can scratch the brass. Wipe the brass hinge lightly but thoroughly with the oil of your choice.
